Race Headquarters

Race Headquarters will be established at Finders Gallery, The Plaza, Commerce St, Kaitaia, on Friday 20th March and Sunday 22nd March 2010. Hours: 10:00 am to 6:00 p.m. Lost and found items will be held here. Telephone number: +64 9 408 6060.

The Course

  • The course is from the respective start venues (except the 6 km Walk) heading south along 90 Mile Beach along the shortest possible route. 

  • Each 3 kilometres will be marked. 

  • Certain check points along the way will be identified and all athletes must pass through these. They may be on the far left of the beach but will be well marked. Failure to go through the check Points will result in disqualification. 

  • The Finish line is at Paripari on Foreshore Rd, Ahipara, and will be sign posted from the School Corner Ahipara. 

Start Venues & Times

Ultra Marathon / Relay  -   Start Time: 8.30 am (tide 2 hours out)

The start venue for the Ultra Marathon and 5 Person Relay is Maunganui Bluff which is sign posted at Te Ahu Road, Te Kao. Maunganui Bluff will be used as the assembly point, baggage collection and will include toilet facilities. The race will begin promptly at 8.30 am.

Marathon  -   Start Time: 10.30 am (tide 4.5 hours out)

The start venue for the Marathon is North Hukatere, which will be sign posted at Whalers Road, Pukenui. North Hukatere will be used as the assembly point, and will include toilet facilities. The race will begin promptly at 10.30 am when the tide is 5 hours out.

Half Marathon Run / Walk  -   Start Time: 12.30 pm (tide low)

The start venue for the Half Marathon / Walk – Run is north of Waipapakauri Ramp which will be sign posted from Waipapakauri Ramp Road on the Ninety Mile Beach. The Waipapakauri Ramp will be used as the assembly point, and will include toilet facilities. The race will start promptly at 12.30pm when the tide will be 1 hour back in.

6 KM Walk for Life - Start Time: 2.00 pm (tide 1 hour in)

The start for the 6km walk is at the finish venue at Foreshore Rd, Ahipara. The course is 3km north along the beach to a turnaround point and then 3km back to the finish. The walk will begin promptly at 2.00pm when the tide is 1hr in.

Buses and Baggage Services

A bus and baggage service will be provided for the Ultra Marathon, Marathon and Half-Marathon entrants only. The bus will leave from the Clock Tower Carpark corner Redan Rd & Commerce Street, Kaitaia.

  • Ultra - marathon departs at 7.00am for start at 8.30am

  • Bus for Marathon departs at 9.00am for start at 10.30am

  • Bus for half-marathon departs 11.00am for start at 12.30pm

  • Buses will also run from the Finish to Town at 6pm and 7pm

Support Stations

Support Stations will be located on the course every 3 kilometres with water and energy drinks and towards the end of the race at 1 kilometre. 

Support Stations will have a basic first aid kit and staff attendance. A medical tent will be available at the finish venue on race day. 2 ambulances will be available around the course. If you feel distressed, please go to the nearest Support Station for assistance
